WHAT IS CREARTIVE SUBLIME?
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Mat 5:14-16
CREARTIVESUBLIME is the visual arts branch of the ministry and where visitors can learn more about the inventiveness that underpins this aspect of our work. The artist writes:
As a fine artist my main inspiration has been my faith in Jesus Christ. My work is rooted both in the truths of the Holy Scriptures and my own experiences and life observations as a Christian. I continue to challenge bygone representations of God.
Much of my work represents my search and exploration of a fresh and unique visual language which encompasses my faith, testimony, lived experience and creative journey. The art works are pictorial investigations into multi-faceted complex issues and interpretations regarding the infinite characteristics of the divine absolute in relation to finite human existence.
I am especially interested in entropy as it relates to the world in which we live. My work parallels the disorder, gradual decline, and ultimate self-destruction of this world with its inexorable redemption. Historical themes such as the prophetic, apocalyptic and the sublime are resurrected for a contemporary audience. Difficult questions connected to existentialism, truth, life, death, sin and suffering, and their remedies; hope, grace, forgiveness, joy, and peace in the Lord Jesus Christ are always present.
Materials and process remain important to my practice and play an equal role in supporting my content. Meaningfully selected colours, materials and methods of application are crucial to my creation and development of reoccurring motifs and metaphors. Regarding form I choose to work moderately, building up layers of colour to create light and depth behind, upon or within a solid base of smooth or abrasive texture. Everything else is left to divine providence.
“ Whensoever you make good use of my labours, commend me in prayer to the mercy of Almighty God, who knows that I have not written these things for love of praise nor for covetousness of worldly reward, nor enviously or jealously reserving any precious or rare knowledge for myself alone-nay, rather, for the increase of Gods honour and the glory of Gods name have I succoured the needs of others, and taken thought for their advancement.” Paraphrased from a combination of sources: Theophilus Presbyter, Diversarum atrium schedula.
